When is UCR due for 2027?
Who must file
Interstate motor carriers (for-hire and private), freight forwarders, brokers and leasing companies register every year with their base state through the UCR program. The fee is based on the number of power units you own or operate (trailers don’t count).
2027 fees (effective Oct 1, 2026)
| 0–2 vehicles | $55 |
| 3–5 | $167 |
| 6–20 | $333 |
| 21–100 | $1,163 |
| 101–1,000 | $5,548 |
| 1,001+ | $54,165 |

Penalties for missing it
Per the UCR Plan, you must register and pay before January 1 of the registration year to keep operating legally. After that the fee is still owed, and a non-registrant may be subject to state enforcement action. Fine amounts are set by each state and aren’t published by the UCR Plan, so we don’t list a number here. If you operated in 2026 and didn’t register, you also owe the 2026 fee.
How to file
Register and pay online at the official site: ucr.gov (Visa, Mastercard or eCheck). Questions: 1-833-UCR-PLAN (1-833-827-7526). Watch out for look-alike sites that charge extra “service fees” — the official site is ucr.gov.
Get a reminder before it’s due
